Notes from the Founder Cheri Brown

              Saturday June, 2010

It is Saturday in late June and we delivered 110 baggies, mens hats, mens t-shirts, shorts,
pants, womens hygiene, 100 bottles of water, on 8th, 9th ave, by Madison Jail, between Jefferson
and Van Buren streets in Phoenix. We distributed alot around the Cass street Homeless Shelter,
we got of the car there to give to men lying down and in wheel chairs.
I prayed with D-Arrow the salvation prayer, not sure if he already had done that, he said he
knew Jesus and quoted some scripture. Whoopee. :)

Then we went to Margaret park on 3rd ave, and distributed more baggies and water. The Park Ranger in
a SUV follow us on the grass, I thought that was odd. Finally he pulled up right next to us on
the grass far side of park and said I could finish giving homeless water and baggies, but do not come back.
I asked him why, he said it is dangerous, I said I prayed for protection from God. He said, you should go
to Cass street shelter and pass out stuff. I told him I already had. Then he said, OK what I am saying
is I do not want you to distribute water or anything in this park, we want the homeless to go to the
       Cass shelter. I said OK.

But in my heart I do obey the laws, but I can't see letting the homeless in the park have water is a violation
of anything. I think they just don't want them in that park. But the reason they go there is they can sleep
and it is less dangerous for them.

              Saturday January 3, 2010

It is Saturday January 3, 2010 and we delivered baggies, sweaters, mens dress shirts
water, coffee, and soda to the homeless on the streets of Phoenix.

It was a quiet day. People loved the coffee I brought in a carafe. That was everyone's
favorite, outside of soda. These are things we take for granted but the homeless don't get
       very often.
Something I did was ask them if they wanted sugar or sweetner in their coffee that already
had cream in it. Surprisingly, they loved the fact that I asked them their preference.
Then when I finished putting sugar in their coffee, I would stir it for them, as I was
sitting in the car doing this for them. I told them Jesus came to serve and that is
what I am doing. Their faces lit up.

We drove over to Margaret Park and gave baggies and drinks to homeless laying on the
grass. We met a family of six and what a delight this was. A mom with six kids, so I asked
her would you like some socks and hygiene products, she was reluctant to answer. The funny
thing about this was, when I had gone in the restroom earlier and was washing my hands, she
had asked me if I wanted hand sanitizer that she had. Later this same lady I am asking
if she wanted socks etc. She didnt say but one of her daughters shook her head yes.
Earl and I said we would be right back that we would go to the car and get the stuff.
But close on our heels was pitter patter of little feet. Here they come all six girls
following us. Very cute indeed. So we passed out seven baggies, a litre of root beer which
the girls quickly grabbed and off they went.

Each event doesn't seem like that big a deal. But it is, it does impact and bring hope
and a little joy in a very difficult life for the homeless. Plus, they can't understand
why we take our money and time and do this. So spreading God's love in this way does make
       a difference.

*** Founder's note: You hear on TV do an act of kindness. The Bible is all about acts of kindness
and all about loving your neighbor. Who is your neighbor? Anyone who you come in contact with
who needs help. Acts of Kindness is not a new buzz word. It was a way of life for those
who believe in the Bible and what Jesus Christ did for us on the cross.

*** It strikes me as funny that we have to be told and be intentional in our actions, to
do acts of kindness every once in awhile. We have to be told to care for the hurting,
feed the poor, help the helpless. In all of our knowledge, we have become cold, numb,
bitter, selfish, callus, so every so often if someone reminds us to be loving or caring
we say ok I can do this once a year or so.

*** Coming home after our delivery to the homeless that day, I felt a little disallusioned.
I didn't lead anyone to Christ, that was my goal, I had the script ready. But later that
day, the Holy Spirit reminded me that it is up to God. I planted the seed. God will make it
grow. It is not my job to save anybody, just to obey the task God gives me.
I may be number one in planting, and that person will not accept Christ until the forty fourth
person invites them to believe and trust in Christ for their life now and eternally.

              Saturday August 2009

It is Saturday July 2009 and we went to 8th, 9th and Washington and 7th Streets.
We handed out 110 baggies. We prayed for a family who had just come back from eating
lunch at Cass Homeless shelter. They came from Minnesota and had two children. They
moved here hoping for better opportunity. They were staying in a motel.
They said they are believers and are trusting in God to supply their needs.

It always amazes me that people who are down and out have so much more faith than
       me at times.

We gave a senior who was walking around barefoot in scorching heat some socks and shoes and a baggie full
       of crackers, hygiene products etc.

We prayed for a lady named Julia who is staying at the dangerous Cass street shelter because she lost her job, no fault of hers.
Cass is a very dangerous place for a woman. She said in the day Cass wants residents to leave the shelter and walk around.
We met her on the street.

       Saturday August 2008

We met a man who said he was a prophet of God. He knew Bible scriptures and stories very well. He said there is a witch cult
he is fighting in downtown Phoenix. The police showed up so we had to leave.

We met a woman who said she was married to a minister for twenty-five years who abandoned her. She was so distraught that she
said she just wanted to die. I told her God loves her and wanted her to minister to the homeless while she was there. We
prayed and she said she felt hope and much better.
We prayed with other people who were very receptive to praying who needed jobs and to be free from addiction.

Use me Lord to spread the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It is a privilege to serve you Lord. What an honor, and
what joy to see people receive a little hope and Your Love Lord.

It is Saturday May 12,2007, it is the day before Mother's Day. My mother died March 13th, 2007, just two
months prior. This is a sad day for me. But I said to The Lord it would be good to serve and help
the homeless, they have mother's too that they have lost.

It was very hot that day and we passed out 100 baggies and cases of water. The homeless on 9th st. by Madison
Jail is where most hang out. The Cass shelter is there. They were so grateful as they said the usual
people who drop off water didn't show up that day. I passed out clothes too. One homeless man John was going
to a wedding on Sunday and needed a dress shirt and pants. He was grateful. He was riding a bike with a trash
bag full of cans that he was going to turn in for some cash. I made him a sandwich and asked if he had any
prayer requests. John said yes, that he couldn't keep a job because of his temper. He also struggled with
pornography. He knew the Bible well too as he stated to me various scriptures. He was discouraged and I
explained through the Grace of God he could over come his weaknesses and be an minister to the homeless.
He agreed and he mentioned his mom had taught him about God and she had died. When I told him my mom had
just died he really opened up to me. We talked for over an hour and he said that our approach Earl and I
was so humble and friendly and we didn't make him feel beneath us. I laid hands on him and prayed for
victory over his temper and pornography and that God would use him on the streets.

Next we met Julia. She was in her fifties I would guess. She had a part-time job housecleaning, but
lost it recently. She was trying to get another job. It is hard when you live on the
streets and have no phone or address to get a job. I gave her some of my mom's shoes. I gave her a
Bible that Phoenix Rescue had given me. I saw her reading the tracts I gave her later that day
when we went back to that area. I laid hands on her and prayed that God would give her
favor and give her a job so she could get off the streets. That area by the jail is
very dangerous, especially for women.

We bring hope and God's love to the homeless. We don't judge them, we come in under the radar.
So they feel free to express their real weaknesses and to realize that God loves them
no matter what they have done.

IT'S COLD IN ARIZONA...THESE HOMELESS PEOPLE ARE FREEZING. THEY GET THERE STUFF STOLEN EVERY NIGHT,
SO THEY BURY THEIR STUFF UNDER GROUND AND ONLY CARRY ENOUGH STUFF TO PUT IN SMALL BACK PACK.
I REALLY NEED Gloves, Coats, Blankets, Thermals, Sleeping Bags, Bibles, SOCKS, MENS NEW, 9-13 AND UNDERWEAR (ALL SIZES)
MENS PANTS AND WOMENS PANTS TOO!!!

***Remember this, every person is one paycheck away from being homeless.

One catastrophe can make you homeless!

***I have heard the same excuse when I talk to people about the homeless. They will waste it on drugs and alcohol. That isn't what the Bible tells us to worry about. He commands us to feed the poor and share one another's burdens. Help the lost sheep........................

I am so happy we went out Saturday December 10, 2006. We focused just on Margaret T. Deck
Park. It is in between 3rd st and 1st Street off Culver street.
We got to spend about an hour or more with each person. We prayed for four people in
particular: Linda, John, David, and Bear ( A Cheyenne Native American who loves Jesus.)
There stories were tragic, heartfelt and truthful. One was an author, another a 72 yr old
senior citizen;three weeks away from collecting Social Security. Then he already has a
place picked out to live in. He is very excited. He has been on the streets for four years.
He doesn't like to stay in the shelters as he saw the leaders shooting up drugs, Wow!
That is disturbing. He has been robbed while sleeping 40 to 50 times.

Another couldn't get any money for a room from a big organization for that she worked for (for two days).
She begged and begged. She lives in a Hostel. It is only $20 a night. We helped her a little.
She had a lawyer in India charge her $2000 for copyrights and didn't deliver anything. She
had to get another lawyer who at least printed her 300 books she wrote. She barely
made it back to America. She is searching spiritual learning. We explained the only
way to spiritual enlightment is through Jesus Christ.

David was ashamed that he wasn't a good father and is embarrassed to contact his grown
children. We told him that I had broken the ten commandments more than once. He said no,
that cannot be, he said you didn't murder someone did you? I said what do you think
abortion is? His eyebrows lifted. I said also the Bible says if you hate someone in your
heart of mind you have committed murder. He thought about that for awhile. So I said
see David, whatever you have done is not that bad that Jesus will forgive you.
I told him to call his kids. We gave him a earphone radio he really enjoyed that.
We give gifts at Christmas, backpacks, hats, coats and this time radios.

Bear is a Cheyenne Native American who misses his Grandparents as they died not
to long ago. They were 116 years old and loved God. He was so sad to talk about
them. He says I have no family left. So I have Bible studies in the library on
the four floor and invite the homeless. I also find ways to feed them by getting
different churches in downtown Phoenix to donate. Bear is really a great
coordinator. He knows how to get what he wants and get others to offer help.
He recently had open heart surgery and has a scar that runs the length of his
chest vertically. He used to be a Marine. He loves Jesus and has a dream to
someday have a building and outreach for the homeless and be a minister. He
really liked what we were doing and wanted to join us some time.

I have a burning passion to show the less fortunate God's merciful love.
All those people felt that what they had done was so bad that they were ashamed
and that maybe they were not worthy of God's love or forgiveness.
My goal is to encourage them and let them know God forgives anything and everything if
you truly want to change your ways and submit and surrender to God's will and ask forgiveness.
If I had a million dollars I would have my own building mission to help and minister to less
fortunate. I do what I can with my extra monies.
I have walked so many paths that I get the fact that if I were in their shoes I might
do the same as they do.
I always want to be humble as Jesus said, "The humble shall inherit the earth and the Kingdom of God".

December 17, 2005 we out to the streets of Phoenix, Arizona
and gave many gifts all wrapped so that the homeless could enjoy a
real Christmas present. Thanks to Karen at Lane Bryant we had many beautiful
new coats that really made the homeless happy and kept them warm. We gave
coffee mugs with lids and some change to people.
We had a line behind out van waiting for sandwiches that my mother was scurrying to make.

We handed out at least 100 baggies, sleeping bags, coats, sweaters, t-shirts and
umbrellas.
I was able to pray for two people who wanted me to say a prayer for
them. We talked about the end times and how Jesus will be returning soon. I had
some people who were reluctant but I told them to just think about it they had
nothing to lose by accepting Jesus into their life.
I watch "The Way of the Master" TV show and pick up tips on how to minister
on the streets.

All and all it was great to give.

      January 4th, 2004 we
went out in the streets of Phoenix on 7th Ave.
Wow what a response this time.
People were running to our van wanting to get our baggies of hygiene, socks,
food and of course the salvation prayer.
I was astounded at the people when they found out we were giving away baggies.
They crowded around our van and many hands were in my window reaching for baggies.
I felt like I was in a third world country like Africa.
Some people would ask do we have food or bus passes.

I went down Madison Street by the CASS Homeless shelter.
That was where I found hundreds of people laying on the ground and on curbs.
It is by the Madison Street Jail.
Within 20 min I delivered all 50 baggies. Wow how great is that.

Now I am starting my next batch of baggies.
We have starving needy people right here in America. Lets feed and help them first.
Some legislation is trying to make it a criminal offense and want to put homeless people in jail.

***Remember this, every person is one paycheck away from being homeless.
One catastrophe can make you homeless!

***I have heard the same excuse when I talk to people about the homeless.
They say they are drunks or drug addicts. That may be true partly.
But I'm not so sure I wouldn't be a drunk if I had to live on the streets
in the freezing cold and in Arizona in the summer it reaches 115 degrees.
How about you?

In any case God commands us to help the poor and needy, and most of all help the lost
find Jesus. God didn't say only if they use it for good purposes. God said we must obey
him and he will take it from there. Our part is obedience; not judgment!
Jesus didn't seek out Christians or religious people.
Jesus sought out the lost sheep; the prostitutes, drunks, disease stricken,
murderers, and so on.
That doesn't sound like to me he sought out people who already know the Lord.

If you say well they just waste the money on the alcohol, what about you responsibility
to spread the gospel to the lost sheep.
That is a commandment from God. Are you doing that?
But we must be careful to invest in God's business. Another words help people find
Jesus Christ. Invest in organizations who are bringing people to Christ.
Helping me with Socks from Jesus is doing two things. It is helping homeless people
have some needed essentials, but with every baggie is a salvation prayer. That's God's
business...

***Remember Jesus Christ gave it all including his life for you and me. We are all
sinners and don't deserve any more than those on the streets. You and I are saved
by grace not our works or lifestyle.
In heaven you will stand next to the homeless man or woman, can you truly say you did
every thing you could as Jesus' servant.
Jesus is not a respecter of persons, so whether you lived a wealthy blessed life, in heaven
you will be treated equal to the homeless man or woman. You will be accountable for there
life too. If you could have done something and didn't you will be held responsible.

***If you could see the faces of those desperate and ashamed you would act immediately. We have so much
and they have so little. We complain about our situation and yet we have so much.***
